Our opinion, not quite yet. LED lighting technology will certainly get there in its time and as this article states, research is being done, but for right now the industry mainly sticks to low pressure mercury vapor lamps. The ability to produce wavelengths close to 265nm, and provide the intensity and irradiance field necessary for disinfection of air and surfaces, is just out of reach. We will continue to follow SSLEEC at UC Santa Barbera as they continue to dive into this research.
