Our Veteran Connection

Bowerbird Energy was founded by Marine and OIF combat-veteran (SGT) Chris Rawlings, who attributes much of the success of his company to his veteran entrepreneurship network, including the Institute for Veterans and Military Families and the Veterans Institute for Procurement. Chris continues to support these organizations and their mission, and is reguarly called as a speaker and participant in related programs and conferences across the country. Chief Electrician

Position: Chief Electrician
Location: Richmond, VA (Hybrid)

This role is crucial in driving our commitment to sustainable energy solutions, including LED lighting, solar power, EV charging, and low voltage solutions

Key Responsibilities

– Lead and manage electrical projects, ensuring they meet technical, safety, and compliance standards.
– Oversee project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and execution.
– Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, procurement, and construction.
– Provide expert guidance on electrical design and installation.
– Ensure adherence to government contracting requirements, codes and other regulatory authorities.
– Mentor and develop junior electrical staff.

Qualifications

– Minimum of 7 years of experience in the field as an electrician.
– Master Electrician license required. (Virginia or equivalent)
– Experience in government contracting (GovCon) is highly desirable.
– Advanced degrees and relevant industry certifications (e.g., NABCEP, OSHA, PMP, CEM, LEED) are a plus.
– Must be a U.S. Citizen and able to pass a comprehensive background check.

Government Contracting Manager

Position: Government Contracting Manager
Location: Richmond, VA (Hybrid)
Employment Type: Full-Time 

Bowerbird Energy is seeking a full-time Government Contracting Manager to lead and oversee our government contracting division. This is a hybrid role located in Richmond, VA with flexibility for remote work. The Government Contracting Manager will be responsible for identifying and securing new federal, state, and local government contracting opportunities, managing contracts, developing pricing strategies, and collaborating with cross-functional internal teams to deliver government contracting projects on-time and on-budget.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, or a related field required; master’s degree preferred
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in government contracting/procurement with demonstrated success in securing and managing federal contracts and contract vehicles (IDIQ, MATOC, GSA, etc.)
  • Experience with construction, engineering, and energy efficiency / renewable energy systems.
  • Experience in managing a team and in building and sustaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including government officials, clients, suppliers, and cross-functional teams.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and negotiation skills, with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Strong understanding of Federal Acquisition Regulations and the Code of Federal Regulations.
  • Ability to pass a background check and obtain federal facility access.
  • Demonstrated track record of winning government contracts.
  • Must be a US citizen.
  • Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business experience preferred.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform market research identifying acquisition forecasts and budgets. (usaspending.gov , sam.gov)
  • Identify public solicitations and understand the acquisition time zones (requirements, market research, RFP, source selection)
  • Lead the drafting and submission of compelling responses to government solicitations.
  • Forge strategic partnerships with other government contractors including prime contractors, vendors, and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements including the Federal Acquisition Regulations and the Code of Federal Regulations.
  • Liaise with federal agencies, including contracting officers, small business offices, and purchasing departments.
  • Regularly report to senior management on progress and strategy.
  • Attend industry days, conferences, and other events for networking and continuing education.

Role Overview
As an Energy Engineer, you’ll play a vital role in supporting technical sales efforts, developing compelling technical materials, and ensuring the seamless execution of energy projects. Your passion for engineering, organization, and productivity will be key in driving our mission forward. This position offers significant opportunities for growth, including obtaining industry certifications and gaining hands-on experience in diverse areas such as measurement and verification, renewable energy deployment, energy auditing, energy procurement, and ongoing energy management.

Duties and Responsibilities

Develop technical content to enhance sales presentations and articulate the Bowerbird value proposition.

Perform energy calculations in line with industry standards, gaining deep expertise in commercial and industrial energy management.

Act as the subject matter expert for current clients and project managers, ensuring the delivery of high-quality energy projects.

Collaborate closely with the Director of Business Development, contributing strategies and insights to disseminate technical knowledge internally and externally.

Provide project oversight and assist project management teams in maintaining excellence in execution and fulfilling Bowerbird’s commitments.

Qualifications
Certified Energy Manager (CEM) or the ability to obtain within 6 months.

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field.

Experience with BIM/CAD programs like Revit, AutoCAD, SolidWorks (preferred).

Proficiency in energy modeling and savings calculation tools such as EnergyStar Portfolio Manager, Aurora, EcoInsight, SnapCount, Ekotrope, EnergyGauge.

Strong project management and client relationship skills.
