Our Veteran Connection

Bowerbird was founded by Marine and combat veteran Chris Rawlings, who attributes much of the success of his company to his military service, veteran mentors, and his continued education and training through the Institute for Veterans and Military Families. Chris continues to support this institute and its mission, and is called as a speaker and participant in related programs and conferences across the country. Sales Intern (Remote)

Job Description

Energy and Environmental Management Company, Richmond, VA – Part-time

Bowerbird is a commercial contractor that approaches every project through the lens of energy efficiency and environmental impact. As a Sales Intern, you will work directly with existing and potential customers on behalf of Bowerbird Energy. Along with developing your sales skills, we will invest in training you in sales and the technical field of energy services contracting to include, but not limited to: LED Lighting, Electrical Vehicle Infrastructure, Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Improvement, Energy Auditing, Metering, Building Controls and Automation, and more. Entry Level Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop technical knowledge on energy related products and services

Energy Engineer (Hybrid - Richmond, VA)

Job Description

Bowerbird Energy is looking for an “Energy Manager”, to join the team and help transform and expand the business. The position will encompass sales, with a primary focus on energy services contracting. The candidate will be a self-driven individual with a passion for organization. This position offers a tremendous opportunity for growth and ability to gain insight into energy services from renewable energy, energy monitoring, and energy efficiency. The candidate will be responsible for supporting the sales team with subject matter expertise related to energy management. This position requires the candidate to balance multiple projects at once and coordinate with the project management teams to ensure a successful commissioning of the projects.

The goal is to develop relationships with clients, provide technical support, and see each projects success from start to finish.

Position Requirements:

  • Develop material and content to support the sales team, communicate the Bowerbird value proposition, and answer any technical questions or concerns about our services.
  • Perform energy calculations in line with industry standards and have an in depth understanding of commercial energy management
  • Engage current clients and project managers as the subject matter expert on energy projects being delivered to answer any questions and help ensure a quality project is delivered meeting energy savings, IAQ, carbon reduction, or other goals set by the sales team and stakeholders of the project.
  • Report to the VP of Business Development with strategies, ideas, & recommendations on distributing technical knowledge to our team internally and to partners to better help sell energy solution projects.
  • Perform project oversight and support project management teams with maintaining high quality craftsmanship and executing on our promised energy goals.


  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM) or Energy Manager In-Training (EMIT) by The Association of Energy Engineers or the ability to obtain either within 12 months of placement
  • B.S in Engineering or Other Related Technical Field
  • Experience using Revit, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or related BIM/CAD programs (preferred)
  • Familiar with EnergyStar Portfolio Manager, Aurora, EcoInsight, SnapCount, Ekotrope, EnergyGauge, or related programs calculating energy savings or modeling energy usage in commercial buildings.

Director of Sales and Business Development (Hybrid - Richmond, VA)

Position Requirements:

  • Identify and qualify ideal clients within the private and public sectors
  • Identify and qualify public pre/solicitations such as RFP’s, RFQ’s, Sources Sought, IFB’s, etc.
  • Develop relationships with private general contractors, developers, architect firms, and engineering firms
  • Work with our proposal team to respond to solicitations in an accurate and timely manner
  • Identify prime contractors, contract vehicles (GSA Schedule, IDIQ, MATOC’s), and teaming opportunities to leverage our abilities and create further opportunities for business
  • Build relationships with contracting officers, purchasing agents and end users by conducting capability briefings
  • Research government spending habits and market trends to determine an optimal govcon strategy
  • Maintain positive relationships and follow up with current clients to generate more business
  • Continue to build relationships with current vendors, teaming partners, channel partners, and explore potential Joint Venture opportunities with qualified companies
  • Perform Capability Briefings, “Lunch n Learns”, Power Point presentations, and the like to present the value proposition of Bowerbird Energy
  • Engage team members for technical support and to answer questions or concerns outside your area of expertise

Track sales progress and clients in Customer Resource Management Tool. Candidate will report directly to the CEO with sales progress reports each month. 


  • Understanding of Federal Acquisition Regulations and Code of Federal Regulations (FAR’s, CFR’s)
  • Experience with submitting proposals and winning contracts, either as a sub or prime contractor.
  • Experience performing capability briefings, public speaking, and networking
  • Experience in construction – Electrical contracting, mechanical contracting, general contracting, or associated fields (preferred)
  • Prior experience as a contracting officer, government contractor, or military is a plus.
  • Must be willing to travel around the Mid-Atlantic if needed. (25-50%, travel not anticipated as frequently during COVID restrictions)
