Our Veteran Connection

Bowerbird was founded by Marine and combat veteran Chris Rawlings, who attributes much of the success of his company to his military service, veteran mentors, and his continued education and training through the Institute for Veterans and Military Families. Chris continues to support this institute and its mission, and is called as a speaker and participant in related programs and conferences across the country. Director of Business Development

Bowerbird Energy is hiring a Director of Business Development in Richmond, VA. This leadership role will drive customer relations and focus on new customer development to serve with a diverse portfolio of services. The successful candidate will drive vision and execution for our existing and future work.

Bowerbird is a commercial contractor that approaches every project through the lens of energy efficiency and environmental impact. With unique engineering practices and by leveraging proven technologies, Bowerbird finds efficiency opportunities with the products, processes, and maintenance of client’s spaces. In turn, clients reduce costs, meet environmental goals, and create healthier spaces for building occupants.

The ideal candidate thrives on building and maintaining strong relationships, collaborating on proposal strategy alongside our team, and identifying right-fit projects for Bowerbird to invest in. The Director of Business Development is ultimately responsible for the success of customer relations, and project development from concept through service delivery.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Identify and qualify ideal clients within the private and public sectors.
  • Identify and qualify public pre/solicitations such as RFP’s, RFQ’s, Sources Sought, IFB’s, etc.
  • Develop relationships with private general contractors, developers, architect firms, and engineering firms.
  • Collaborate with our proposal team to respond to solicitations in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Identify prime contractors, contract vehicles (GSA Schedule, IDIQ, MATOC’s), and teaming opportunities to leverage our abilities and create further opportunities for business.
  • Build relationships with contracting officers, purchasing agents and end users by conducting capability briefings.
  • Research government spending habits and market trends to determine an optimal govcon strategy.
  • Maintain positive relationships and follow up with current clients to generate more business.
  • Continue to build relationships with current vendors, teaming partners, channel partners, and explore potential Joint Venture opportunities with qualified companies.
  • Perform Capability Briefings, “Lunch n Learns”, Power Point presentations, and associated projects to present the value proposition of Bowerbird Energy.
  • Engage team members for technical support and to answer questions or concerns outside your area of expertise.
  • Track sales progress and clients in Customer Resource Management Tool. Candidate will report directly to the CEO with sales progress reports each month.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

  • Understanding of Federal Acquisition Regulations and Code of Federal Regulations (FAR’s, CFR’s).
  • Experience with submitting proposals and winning contracts, either as a sub or prime contractor.
  • Experience performing capability briefings, public speaking, and networking.
  • Experience in construction – Electrical contracting, mechanical contracting, general contracting, or associated fields (preferred).
  • Prior experience as a contracting officer, government contractor, or military is a plus.
  • Must be willing to travel around the Mid-Atlantic if needed. (25-50%, travel not anticipated as frequently during COVID restrictions).

Project Manager

Bowerbird Energy is hiring a Project Manager in Richmond, VA. This energy-focused role will transform and expand business in the energy sector. The Project Manager will work with sales, (specialized in energy service contracting), and bring a self-driven approach with a passion for productivity. The successful candidate will experience a tremendous opportunity for growth and the ability to gain insight into energy services from renewable energy, energy monitoring, and energy efficiency.

The ideal candidate excels in balancing multiple projects concurrently and exhibits a superior level of organization. The Project Manager collaborates with the project management team to ensure a successful commissioning of the projects and is responsible for developing relationships with clients, providing technical support, and managing each project from concept to execution.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Develop material and content to support the sales team, communicate the Bowerbird value proposition, and answer technical questions or concerns about services.
  • Perform energy calculations in accordance with industry standards and achieve an in-depth understanding of commercial energy management.
  • Engage current clients and project managers as the subject matter expert on energy projects being delivered to answer any questions and help ensure a quality project is delivered meeting energy savings, IAQ, carbon reduction, or other goals set by the sales team and stakeholders of the project.
  • Report to the Director of Business Development with strategies, ideas, and recommendations on distributing technical knowledge to the team internally and to partners to better help sell energy solution projects.
  • Perform project oversight and support project management teams with maintaining high quality craftsmanship and executing on Bowerbird’s promised energy goals.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM) or Energy Manager In-Training (EMIT) by The Association of Energy Engineers or the ability to obtain either within 12 months of accepting Project Manager position.
  • B.S in Engineering or related field.
  • Experience using Revit, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or related BIM/CAD programs (preferred).
  • Familiar with EnergyStar Portfolio Manager, Aurora, EcoInsight, SnapCount, Ekotrope, EnergyGauge, or other related programs calculating energy savings or modeling energy usage in commercial buildings.

Technical Sales Executive (Intern)

Bowerbird Energy is hiring a Technical Sales Executive (Intern) to work remotely with their Richmond based team. This role is for active-duty military personnel approved by their command for a DoD SkillBridge Internship within their last six-months of service.

As a Technical Sales Executive (Intern), you will work directly with existing and potential customers on behalf of Bowerbird Energy. Along with developing your sales skills, you will training in sales and the technical field of energy services contracting to include, but not limited to: LED Lighting, Electrical Vehicle Infrastructure, Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Improvement, Energy Auditing, Metering, Building Controls and Automation, and more. WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Develop technical knowledge on energy related products and services
  • Generate sales by engaging with customers and prospects by phone, and email
  • Research and understand the energy services market
  • Keep track of sales tasks in customer relationship management (CRM) tool
  • Attend all sales planning meetings and report weekly to Sales Manager
  • Assist with tracking sales data to communicate results

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

  • Must be on active-duty military with command approval under the DoD SkillBridge Internship program.
