Our Veteran Connection

Bowerbird was founded by Marine and combat veteran Chris Rawlings, who attributes much of the success of his company to his military service, veteran mentors, and his continued education and training through the Institute for Veterans and Military Families. Chris continues to support this institute and its mission, and is called as a speaker and participant in related programs and conferences across the country. Director of Business Development

Bowerbird Energy is hiring a Director of Business Development in Richmond, VA. This leadership role will focus on managing existing relationships and new customer development within the teams diverse portfolio of services. The successful candidate will drive vision and execution for design/build construction projects, facility service contracts, and distribution of Bowerbird technologies to commercial, industrial, and government clients.

Bowerbird is a Class A Energy Services Contractor (ESCO) with a national portfolio of projects offering renewable energy, energy efficiency, air quality, and energy management professional services . With strategic engineering practices and leveraging proven technologies, Bowerbird finds efficiency opportunities with the products, processes, and maintenance of client’s spaces. In turn, clients reduce costs, meet environmental goals, and create healthier spaces for building occupants.

The ideal candidate thrives on building and maintaining strong relationships, collaborating on proposal strategy alongside our technical team, and identifying right-fit projects for Bowerbird to invest in. The Director of Business Development is ultimately responsible for the success of customer relations, and project development.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Identify and qualify ideal clients within the private and public sectors.
  • Identify and qualify opportunities and respond to pre-solicitations (Sources Sought, RFI’s, Capability Briefings, Pre-proposal Meetings)
  • Develop and manage relationships with GC’s, developers, A&E firms, and suppliers.
  • Collaborate with our proposal team to respond to solicitations in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Build relationships with contracting officers, purchasing agents and end users by conducting capability briefings.
  • Maintain relationships with partners and identify value add opportunities
  • Perform Capability Briefings, “Lunch n Learns”, Power Point presentations, and associated projects to present the value proposition of Bowerbird Energy.
  • Track progress and clients in Customer Resource Management Tools, Task Management Softwares, and coordinate with Project Managers for successful completion of projects meeting the needs and demands of the client and contractual obligation.
  • Candidate will report directly to the CEO and manage 1 account executive

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

  • Experience with business development, technical sales, and construction preferred.
  • Experience performing capability briefings and public speaking.
  • Experience in construction – Electrical contracting, mechanical contracting, general contracting, or associated fields (preferred).
  • Prior experience as a contracting officer, government contractor, or military is a plus.
  • Must be willing to travel around the Mid-Atlantic if needed. (estimated at 25% during peak, travel not anticipated as frequently during COVID restrictions).

Energy Engineer

Bowerbird Energy is hiring a Energy Engineer in Richmond, VA. This energy-focused role will transform and expand business in the energy services sector. The Energy Engineer will work with the sales team for technical support and direction on renewable energy, energy efficiency, and energy management solutions. Candidate will bring a self-driven approach with a passion for productivity, organization, and engineering. The successful candidate will experience a tremendous opportunity for growth and the ability to obtain industry certifications and on the job training across multiple disciplines including measurement and verification / metering, renewable energy deployment, energy auditing, and on-going energy management.

The ideal candidate excels in balancing multiple projects concurrently and exhibits a superior level of organization. The Project Manager collaborates with the project management team to ensure a successful commissioning of the projects and is responsible for developing relationships with clients, providing technical support, and managing each project from concept to execution.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Develop technical material and content to support the sales team, communicate the Bowerbird value proposition, and answer technical questions or concerns about professional services or products.
  • Perform energy calculations in accordance with industry standards and achieve an in-depth understanding of commercial and industrial energy management.
  • Engage current clients and project managers as the subject matter expert on energy projects being delivered to answer any questions and help ensure a quality project is delivered meeting energy savings, carbon reduction, or other goals set by the team and stakeholders of the project.
  • Report to the Director of Business Development with strategies, ideas, and recommendations on distributing technical knowledge to the team internally and to partners to better help curate energy solutions for our clients
  • Perform project oversight and support project management teams with maintaining high quality craftsmanship and executing on Bowerbird’s commitments.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM) or Energy Manager In-Training (EMIT) by The Association of Energy Engineers or the ability to obtain either within 12 months of accepting Project Manager position.
  • B.S in Engineering or related field.
  • Experience using Revit, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or related BIM/CAD programs (preferred).
  • Familiar with EnergyStar Portfolio Manager, Aurora, EcoInsight, SnapCount, Ekotrope, EnergyGauge, or other related programs calculating energy savings or modeling energy usage in commercial buildings.

Technical Account Executive (Internship, SkillBridge, OR Entry Level Sales)

Bowerbird Energy is hiring a Technical Account Executive to work remotely with their Richmond based team. This role is for active-duty military personnel approved by their command for a DoD SkillBridge Internship within their last six-months of service, college interns, OR entry level sales associates with at least one year of sales experience in a technical or related field.

As a Technical Account Executive (Intern), you will work directly with existing and potential customers on behalf of Bowerbird Energy. Along with developing your sales skills, you will receive training in sales and the technical field of energy services contracting to include, but not limited to: LED Lighting, Electrical Vehicle Infrastructure, Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Improvement, Energy Auditing, Metering, Building Controls and Automation, Renewable Energy, Energy Audits, and Sustainability. WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Generate sales by engaging with customers and prospects by phone, and email
  • Research, understand, and communicate Bowerbird Energy products and services
  • Keep track of sales tasks in customer relationship management (CRM) tool
  • Attend all sales planning meetings and report weekly to Director of Business Development

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

  • Must be on active-duty military with command approval under the DoD SkillBridge Internship program, enrolled in a 4 year degree (preferably Engineering), OR an entry level sales associate with at least one year of experience in technical sales or a related field (construction, facility support services, engineering)
  • Above average communication skills are required.
  • Experience in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Adobe Pro
